Communication Policy

GPs in the practice may be contacted during normal opening hours. If the GP is with a patient, a message will be taken and the reception staff will advise you when it is likely that the GP will return your call. In an emergency your call will always be put through to a GP.

Emails: We do not use email to communicate with patients.

Patients are asked not to use email to request information or communicate with the Practice.

We have chosen to communicate with patients by telephone and text message where appropriate.

During Covid we have relaxed our email policy, as we have assessed that the security risks of email are outweighed by the benefit of reducing the need for patients to come to the practice to collect documents.

If you request a document to be emailed in doing so you will be deemed to have accepted the security risks associated with emails.

Text Messages: If you have provided us with your mobile number and given consent you may receive appointment and health reminders by SMS.

After Hours

If you are a patient of the Practice and require a doctor after hours please phone 0247 82 388. A recorded message will advise you of the contact number for the on call Doctor. A fee of up to $200.00 may apply for after hour visits - this includes pensioners and health card holders.

In case of an emergency please call 000.

Emergencies

In case of an emergency please call 000.

Please communicate to Receptionists if your call is of an urgent nature and we will triage immediately.

Or Practice will always fit in a child or elderly patient on the day if there is concern that the issue is serious and requires immediate attention.  Please communicate any concerns to our receptionist.

Practice Fees

Katoomba Medical Practice is a mixed bill practice. Patients with a current pension of health care card and children under sixteen are bulk billed. All other patients are privately billed and are expected to pay at the time of consultation.  We are able to process your Medicare rebate at the time of payment and deposit it straight to your bank account.

Waiting times

We endeavour to make your wait time as short as possible but due to unforeseen circumstances delays may occur. Our receptionist will keep you informed and notify you of wait times and delays.

Reminders

Our Practice is committed to preventive care. You may receive a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventive health services appropriate to your care.  If you do not wish to be part of this system, please advise your doctor.

Test Results

The Practice does not discuss results over the phone. Your doctor will advise you during the consultation when your results are expected to be available.  We will contact you if your doctor wishes to follow up the results of your test.  It is important that all patients know their test results and an appointment should be made to see your doctor to obtain results.
